In Memoriam ..

The very dear and close friend of the YMCA Europe J. Bruce Knox of Lockport, Illinois, retired YMCA of the USA Director for Europe, passed away yesterday, on Monday January 14th, 2008. From 1989 to 1997 he served as a liason officer between YMCA of the USA and the European Alliance of YMCAs, participated at all meetings of the EAY and visited most of the National YMCAs in Europe.

Bruce made a lot of good friends around Europe. His friendly way, his overwhelming charm and his genuine dedication to the mission of YMCA made him a wonderful ambassador of his American YMCA and of the YMCA International.

He and his wife Sue were close friends of me and my wife and it was with the great sorrow that I received a message of Bruce passing away this morning while I was preparing to visit him in the hospital. I arrived to Chicago just two hours too late to honour him with Award for long and outstanding service to the EAY.

Our prayers and thoughs are with Sue and the rest of his family and friends.

We bow our heads in memory of good man and true friend. May he rest in peace.
