YMCA RUSSIA. YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, NETWORKING AND … THE VOLGA

11th May 2012

Less than one week was enough to see the reality and impact of several YMCAs in Russia. Juan Simoes, YE Secretary General and Michal Szymanczak, Senior Executive Secretary visited Ivanovo and Yaroslavl from April 27th to May 3rd following an intense and diverse agenda of meetings prepared by our friends at YMCA Russia with a special contribution from Misha Guskov, Development Secretary at that National Movement.

YMCA RUSSIA. YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, NETWORKING AND … THE VOLGA - 03

Representing YMCA Ivanovo, Alexei Kostyakov coordinated the meetings with local and regional authorities in the frame of the candidacy of the city to host the 2015 European Youth Capital. In each of their offices, we met with Dimitri Platonov (Head of the Youth Department of the City Government), Maksim Poljakov (Vice-Prime Minister of the Regional Government) and Sergiej Morozow (Vice-President of the Local Parliament). A special gathering with the Youth Committee in charge of the candidacy of Ivanovo was followed by a local YMCA Board meeting and a sharing with the young YMCA leaders in Ivanovo.

The visit was shown in one of the main Russian news TV channel (see link below)

The visit to Yaroslavl included an inspiring gathering with YMCA young leaders and meetings with Nikolai Kurochkin, National General Secretary of YMCA Russia, Vitaly Preobrazensky, President of the National Board and Lena Maslenina member of the local and national boards. Nikolai guided us through a visit to the area in which the National Movement is developing the Volga project with the support of YMCA and local partners.

It was definitely an excellent and effective visit in which we confirmed the good capacity of YMCA Russia to network with other public and private institutions in order to achieve common goals. At the same time, clear and motivating spaces for youth participation and development are created … And all these good things are happening in the margins of the breathtaking Volga River!

Congratulations to YMCA Russia and thank you for the arrangements, contribution and support during the visit!
