Call for applications: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Part time. 20 hours per week
YMCA Europe is seeking for an experienced organisational leader, exceptional manager and excellent communicator to serve as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Reporting to the Secretary General and working closely with the Executive Staff Team, the COO position will be crucial to advance YMCA Europe’s new Strategy and the further development of the organisation following the Executive Committee’s (Board) governance directions.
In this role, the COO will lead the delivery of our organisation’s strategic and ongoing planning processes, implementing best practices in management systems, including the appropriate integration and collaboration of staff and volunteer teams and the restructuring of functional areas, ensuring strong organisational performance to meet specific goals.
We are seeking a COO who can demonstrate a track record of high performing operational leadership through innovation, collaboration and change management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be vital to continue the relational role of YMCA Europe and to build new strategic partnerships and deliver the wider ambitions of the organisation.
Profile
- Strong conceptual and visionary skills as well as practical organisational abilities.
- Proven experience in similar position in the the profit or non-profit sector
- Experience of working in a culturally diverse environment with a strong understanding of contemporary global issues affecting young people and their communities.
- Demonstratable experience working collaboratively to lead the integration of a complex organisation and utilising best practices in management to ensure shared success.
- Significant experience developing and leading teams and working as an effective team member.
- Proven success leading a collaborative strategic planning process and ensuring its effective implementation.
- Strong staff management experience , with the ability and interest to work closely with staff and volunteers to set and achieve individual and team goals.
- Outstanding analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on results and impact in terms of projects applications, fundraising and human resources management.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organisation and to lead the organisation operationally within tight budgets .
- Strong initiative and motivation, with the ability to excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
- Strong personal commitment with the YMCA mission and values
- If possible, a track record of relevant YMCA work experience at national or international level
Practical information
- Part time position (20 hours per week) for a fixed term of 4 years.
- Working hours and schedule to be agreed with successful candidate
- The position will require a degree of flexibility due to the profile of the organisation and the diversity of its membership, therefore some meetings/calls may be outside normal working hours.
- Some travel will be required. At least 4 full days per month at the YMCA Office in Brussels plus specific travels within Europe.
- Renumeration will be commensurate with the candidate’s compatibility to the role and experience.To be agreed with the successful candidate, including type of contract in the frame of the Belgium legislation and YMCA Europe’s procedures.
- Tentative starting date: March 1st 2024
- Interim period of 1 year
