This was possible through an individualised care programme at ‘Dar Niki Cassar’, aiming to reintegrate back into society by teaching the beneficiaries the necessary skills to get back on their feet.
YMCA Malta has always been at the forefront to advocate on behalf of vulnerable communities living in the Maltese Islands towards a more just society.
Now, YMCA Malta reached another important milestone in its history by signing a financial aid agreement with the Maltese Ministry for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children's Rights of €1.5 million spread over the next 3 years.
During the press conference, the Minister said it is the Government's duty to do their best together with NGO's for the betterment of society whilst the YMCA CEO praised the Government's work and said that this is a Government that listens and shows solidarity to those who are going through difficult times in their lives.
Through this service agreement, YMCA Malta will provide new and better services for its service-users while also increasing its current capacity to up to 50 service-users who will be residing in two temporary accommodations, that is, ‘Dar Niki Cassar’ and the ‘Y' Communal Home’.
The ‘Y' Communal Home’ is a new shelter that was opened at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 to cater to the increase in the number of homeless families due to COVID-19.
YMCA Malta is also currently in the phase of starting the refurbishment phase on a third house obtained through an agreement with the Maltese Ministry for Social Accomodation and the Housing Authority.
This third house will also follow the ‘Y Communal Home’ spectrum of care programme and will cater for individuals and families over the age of 60 and those with special needs.
Congratulations to YMCA in Malta, its leadership and members for representing our values through relevant projects in partnership with the key stakeholders in the country.
