"Planetary health" is a scientific concept which emphasizes the interconnectedness between the environment and health.
As the YMCA globally has a long tradition of working for the well-being and health in body, mind and spirit of young people, we believe that the holistic approach of the concept can help to inspire our work as a transnational movement.
The event is structured as follows:
- The conference will have Dr. Christian Abshagen, expert on planetary health, presenting us with more aspects of the concept. Dr. Abshagen is a researcher at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland and head of the CAS Health and Environment there. He is also Head of Sustainability at the University Hospital Basel.
- Nathalie Nidens will present on the practical implementation of the planetary health concept using the example of heat protection. She is a physician with a Master's degree in Public Health and currently doing her doctorate in paediatric environmental medicine. Nathalie Nidens works as scientific advisor at KLUG (German Alliance on Climate Change and Health).
- A YMCA representative (tbc) will present current YMCA activities in the area of health and environment as well as possible further activities and future visions
- At the end of the conference we will gather for a group discussion.
