"Planetary health" is a scientific concept which emphasizes the interconnectedness between the environment and health.

As the YMCA globally has a long tradition of working for the well-being and health in body, mind and spirit of young people, we believe that the holistic approach of the concept can help to inspire our work as a transnational movement.

The event is structured as follows:

  1. The conference will have Dr. Christian Abshagen, expert on planetary health, presenting us with more aspects of the concept. Dr. Abshagen is a researcher at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland and head of the CAS Health and Environment there. He is also Head of Sustainability at the University Hospital Basel.
  2. Nathalie Nidens will present on the practical implementation of the planetary health concept using the example of heat protection. She is a physician with a Master's degree in Public Health and currently doing her doctorate in paediatric environmental medicine. Nathalie Nidens works as scientific advisor at KLUG (German Alliance on Climate Change and Health).
  3. A YMCA representative (tbc) will present current YMCA activities in the area of health and environment as well as possible further activities and future visions
  4. At the end of the conference we will gather for a group discussion.

The online event is scheduled on friday 27th January 2023 at 17:00 CET.
