On January 29th, our Secretary General, Juan Simoes Iglesias, had a constructive meeting at the European Commission with Mr. Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission and acting European Commissioner for International Partnerships, responsible for promoting the European Way of Life.
The meeting showed more clearly than ever the close ties between our YMCAs across the continent and the identity of the main European institution. We shared the same values of unity, peace and positive opportunities for our communities.
Vice President Schinas highlighted the role that the YMCA continues playing in advancing our common identity and values as Europeans, emphasising our growing impact as a network of local, national and international organisations.
During the conversation, Secretary General Juan Simoes Iglesias and Jessica Woitalla from our Brussels team provided an update on YMCA Europe’s collective efforts, aligning with the newly adopted strategy, Vision 2030.
The YMCA’s response to pressing global issues, such as the war in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis, was presented as a testament to its commitment to social responsibility.
Looking ahead, YMCA Europe solidifies its role by actively contributing to the European Commission’s agenda, focusing on solidarity, social justice, and the promotion of youth participation.
This strategic collaboration not only reinforces the organization’s commitment to European values but also marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the YMCA movement and the broader European community.
As both entities work together towards shared objectives, the meeting with Vice President Schinas becomes a cornerstone in the journey towards a united and impactful future.
