YMCA Slovakia could not stand idly by in the face of this drama, so from the very beginning, it offered support through transport and accommodation to those in need.
With financial support from the YMCA Europe, the Slovak YMCA works with Ukrainian refugees in both Litopvsky Mikulas and Bratislava.
'Let's talk together' project has already started, a project that aims to help integrate refugees through Slovak language courses. It works both online and face-to-face, in groups of 10-12 people.
Another initiative is the registry office which has been operating for about 3 weeks now, with Ukrainian volunteers involved in the process of facilitating registration at the foreign police.
YMCA volunteers were at the refugee camp where activities and language courses were also initiated. Recently, refugees from the camp found housing and slowly left the location. There are now very few people there so the activities have been moved to the YMCA centers.
The YMCA building in Bratislava is home to several refugee families. In addition to accommodation, the YMCA provides them with daily necessities related to hygiene, food, and materials.
The staff members and volunteers of YMCA Slovakia are now ready to support provide psycho-social support, and hospitality that is well known in our movement- caring for the poor and empowering the refugee communities through their workshops.
