Gdynia is a harbour city on the Baltic coast, neighbouring with Gdansk. Because of the good cooperation with Fundacja Ludzi YMCA (FLY) – NGO (in translation it means Foundation of YMCA People).
The FLY has been active in bringing relief to the refugees from the very beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
At the moment, they provide courses on Polish language and training courses harbour technical workers.
Up to now 10 Ukrainian women passed such courses and got good jobs in the harbour or shipyards. The demand for such courses is bigger, and YMCA Europe is going to increase the involvement in specific projects initiated by FLY.
Beside the training of human resources for the maritime industry, they employ Ukrainian therapeutics in the FLY centre where new facilities for physiotherapy have been recently installed.
After several tries and experiments It looks that the main areas of activities have been defined. We know what is worth of investment and what should be abandoned. Having this, the YMCA Europe mission in Poland can consolidate the efforts.
The FLY foundation in Gdynia is a very good partner for YMCA Europe as they have the ideas, the people and the place. They are also known as a reliable organisation in the community.
Certainly, we are still open to new propositions that match our actual possibilities.
