The High-Level meeting to highlight the Year of Youth opened today. Heads of States, Ministers, and official delegates from the UN members states heard statements from Joseph Deiss, President of the General Assembly, Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, Alek Wek from UK/South Sudan, and Romulo Dantas, YMCA.
We received the dramatic news about the terrorist attack that took place in Norway yesterday afternoon. Our prayers and thoughts are with the victims, their families and all of you in Norway as we firmly condemn this new example of absurd and criminal violence that brings deep sorrow to the millions of people in Europe and the world that seek for peace.
The YMCA was appointed by the President of the 65th General Assembly to deliver the speech on behalf of the youth of the world during the opening ceremony of the High-Level Meeting on Youth on July 25th, in New York, USA.
Working in and with conflicts the YMCA Movement has historically assumed service responsibilities on a scale and magnitude that had never been attempted by another voluntary organisation in the world and would hardly ever be matched again. Until now Peace and Reconciliation remains as one of the key signatures in the YMCA profile positioned and also recognized generally.
We are proud to present to you our Strategic Plan 2011 – 2016. Once again, we want to thank you for your contribution and support over the past months. The road is now open for the future development of YMCA Europe and we are designing the implementation process.
