YMCA Europe reacted immediately after the start of the war in Ukraine. Setting up the global YMCA emergency response, hundreds of thousands of Euros were raised and funded a wide variety of projects, initiatives and activities under the “Camp Europe” name for Ukrainians within their country and abroad.
Among them, 16 overnight camps for Ukrainian youth took place in various parts of Europe last year. Encouraged by the success and impact of the initiative and with support from our long-standing friend and partner from Germany – Bread for the World, YMCA Europe is back with much larger scale – Camp Europe is now a project that will run for the next 3 years!
With major aim of project being “resilience building amongst people affected by the violent conflicts ongoing in and around Europe, Ukraine especially considered”, it intends to consolidate YMCA community and its efforts of support across Europe via delivering specific and coordinated services.
For more than a century, camping program has been the cornerstone of YMCA work around the world and has evolved into its signature program with substantial experience, know-how and human resources available. YMCA Europe is determined to make use of available capacity and make camping as a main vehicle of service delivery for engaged YMCAs in different parts of Europe within the project scope.
