In January 2016, a meeting of the Presidents and National General Secretaries within the Nordic YMCAs and YWCAs was held. It was an opportunity to share best practice, to learn from each other, to meet colleagues and both to inspire and get inspired by others. It is on a voluntary level through the Presidents and on a professional level through the General Secretaries. The interaction between these two groups is also valuable.
Representatives from Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden took part in the meeting that was held in Vatnaskógur summer camp of YMCA YWCA Iceland. The topic this year was leadership training. Birgir Urbancic, represented YMCA Europe in his capacity of member of YMCA Europe´s Executive Committee.
Partly parallel and partly combined was a Nordic leadership training. Youth leaders from the Nordic Countries worked together to plan inter-Nordic leadership sessions at a Nordic YMCA/YWCA Youth Camp that will take place in Iceland in 2017. Through this training it is possible for youth leaders to exchange experiences of youth leadership, identify challenges and gaps in leadership training. Thereafter to prioritize issues to work with at the 2017 Nordic YMCA YWCA Youth camp with other Nordic youth leaders. The training is funded by NORDBUK grant programme.
