„YMCA Europe is a working fellowship to strengthen movements where people grow in body, mind and spirit.“

PRESS RELEASE: 5,000 young people inspired the YMCA and the world

13th August 2013

YMCA Europe´s Festival “LOVE 2 LIVE” had its closing ceremony last Friday August 9th. The participants agreed to spread the unique experience that they had lived in Prague among their YMCA members and friends. The stories that they have lived in Prague will reach thousands more when they return home.

Coming from more than 70 different countries spread across 5 continents, the participants celebrated diversity, international understanding and the pride of being members of the largest world network involving youth.

The programme included workshops, leadership training, worship, performances, music, sports and cultural events under the Patronage of the City of Prague. A number of public and private institutions supported the Festival together with hundreds of local YMCAs that sent their participants to one of the largest events for young people ever organized by the YMCA in its history. An “Impact Day” planned for next November 16th across Europe will keep the participants and their local YMCAs committed to the values expressed during the event. It will be a chance to implement again the spirit of LOVE 2 LIVE through actions and projects based on social transformation and youth participation.

YMCA Europe (European Alliance of YMCAs) celebrated its 40th anniversary and special events took place during the week both at the Festival site and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

YMCA Europe is an international umbrella organization that serves and represents 45 national YMCAs throughout Europe. Collectively, YMCA´s in Europe serve more than 2 million young people in 5,574 locations with more than 100,0000 volunteers and 21,800 staff in cooperation with different public and private institutions.

We want to deeply thank the Festival Planning Team (Steering Group), YMCA Europe´s Executive Committee, Staff, Festival Line Managers, Volunteers and everyone who made this excellent project possible. Touching and changing lives of thousands of young people across the world through a YMCA event was our goal!
