A brief history of UNIFY in Europe
The idea for Unify began at the YMCA World Council 2010 in Hong Kong when some local and national YMCAs within Europe began asking about the Christian foundation of our movement and what the "C" means in the context of our 21st Century YMCA work. This led to the first UNIFY Conference which took place in January 2012 in Northampton, UK.
We were encouraged by the good number of participants and also by the positive feedback, and the planning group decided to continue its work. Since then, UNIFY has become a platform and a network for YMCAs in Europe to share about the Christian Mission.
With the support of Juan Simoes (General Secretary, EAY) and the Christian Orientation Group within YMCA Europe, it was decided to organise a second UNIFY Conference from 13th to 16th of February 2014 in the city of Goerlitz/Zgorzelec (Germany/Poland). We expect attendance from 200 participants from over 15 countries.
The theme of UNIFY 2014 is "Uniting across Europe". According to the Paris Basis it will focus on the person of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God in the 3-fold dimension of sharing the Gospel, serving the needs of the people and living Christian fellowship in unity beyond denominational boundaries. You will find more information and booking details on the Website http://www.ymca-unify.co.uk/
We would like to take this opportunity to invite you, Staff and volunteers of your YMCA movement, especially young people who are interested to explore more about the Christian Mission of the YMCA.
