Across Romania, access to high-quality digital education and community resources remains a critical dividing line for young people and local educators.
To systematically address this challenge, the Young Initiative Association, in partnership with the Bucharest Metropolitan Library, has developed CompassHub—a state-of-the-art digital and community learning space.
Supported by vital funding from HP and YMCA Europe, this hub addresses the urgent need for accessible digital infrastructure.
CompassHub represents a concrete example of how investing in regional digital inclusion can build local capacity from the ground up.
Cultivating a Free Ecosystem for Digital Education
In today’s digital age, a lack of access to technology equals a lack of opportunities. Before the inception of CompassHub, grassroots NGOs, local trainers, and educators in Bucharest frequently faced a stark barrier: a lack of affordable, fully equipped spaces to host digital literacy and tech-focused training.
This hub directly removes this financial hurdle by offering its entire facility and digital zones completely free of charge to community actors who wish to host free digital education activities.
By providing open access to cutting-edge technology, the hub transforms a fractured local landscape into a collaborative ecosystem, ensuring that modern educational tools are accessible to those who need them most. It is a shift from isolation to connection, ensuring no young person is left behind due to technological disparity.

Collaborative Strength: Turning Corporate Vision into Local Impact
When corporate priorities align seamlessly with community needs, the success of this space underscores the profound transformation that occurs. Ahead of the official opening, key stakeholders gathered at the hub to finalise the next operational steps: Mugur Pantia (Managing Director, HP Romania), Ramona Dulgheru (CSR Lead, HP Bucharest site), Ramona Mezei (Director, Metropolitan Library Bucharest), BMB and AYI colleagues.
This close collaboration guarantees that the hub is uniquely positioned to deliver measurable outcomes in employability and digital proficiency—core priorities for HP and YMCA Europe alike.

A Catalyst for Long-Term Employability and Innovation
The long-term strategy extends far beyond offering temporary internet access; it acts as a permanent launchpad for human potential and skill acquisition. By enabling a diverse network of teachers and NGOs to deliver structured digital curricula, the hub establishes a sustainable pipeline for talent development. Young people stepping into the hub will gain the tangible competencies, tech literacy, and confidence required to navigate the modern job market.
The goal is not for young people to find just temporary relief, but to effectively transform potential systemic vulnerability into long-term self-reliance and professional opportunity.
The launch of CompassHub in Romania stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved through shared vision.
By supporting spaces that prioritise human dignity, digital equity, and structural cross-sector cooperation, we create ripple effects that uplift entire communities. Let us continue to support and scale these vital hubs, ensuring every community facilitator and young person has the safe platform they deserve to build a brighter, digitally literate future.
