Across Europe, HP employees and YMCA teams are showing what Local to Local collaboration can look like in practice. From employee-led fundraising in Dublin, giving refurbished technology a new purpose through YMCA Digital Hubs in Spain, to creating new opportunities for digital learning in Bucharest. The partnership brings together HP’s technology, expertise, resources and people with YMCA’s local presence, trusted community relationships and experience working with young people.
There is no single formula for Local to Local. In each community, the partnership takes shape around different needs and opportunities—but with the same goal: turning resources and local expertise into meaningful opportunities for young people and communities.
Grassroots Action in Ireland: Supporting Youth Infrastructure Through Employee Fundraising
Dedicated local fundraising initiated directly by HP staff highlights the company’s Local to Local commitment in Dublin. Over the course of her year-long internship at HP, Jodi Morrison, alongside fellow intern Emmet Christie and supportive colleagues across the HP Dublin office, spearheaded a fundraising campaign that raised €7,808 for YMCA Dublin.
The effort culminated in a site visit to the newly established YMCA Balgaddy centre, where the HP team met with local YMCA representatives Leanne Young and Ashling Cronin. By connecting employee-led fundraising directly with a YMCA rooted in the local community, the initiative shows how HP employees can support and strengthen the spaces and services that local YMCA teams are building around the needs of young people.
The visit also brought both sides of the partnership together on the ground, connecting HP employees directly with the people and communities their efforts are supporting.
Spain’s Circular Economy Model: Expanding Tech Access via HP HOPE
In Spain, Local to Local takes another form: combining technology circularity with YMCA’s community-based approach to digital inclusion. Through HP HOPE, refurbished HP laptops are given a second life and delivered to YMCA España Digital Hubs, where local teams integrate them into socio-educational and employment programmes for children, adolescents and young adults.
This collaboration goes beyond device donation. HP provides technology that can be put back into meaningful use.
At the same time, YMCA’s local presence, youth workers and programmes help turn access to that technology into opportunities to learn, build digital skills and prepare for the future. In this way, the partnership connects product sustainability with practical opportunities for young people in local communities.
Bridging Digital Divides in Romania: Multi-Sector Collaboration at CompassHub
In Bucharest, the Local to Local approach demonstrates the value of bringing different organisations and resources together around a shared community need. HP, YMCA Europe, the Young Initiative Association and the Bucharest Metropolitan Library joined forces to launch CompassHub, transforming a traditional library space into a free environment for digital learning, collaboration and opportunity.
By combining technology and partnership support with local infrastructure, community knowledge and programming, CompassHub creates a space where educators, NGOs and community members can access digital tools and learning opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
The hub provides community-led technical workshops, offers free access to high-end hardware for local educators and NGOs, and delivers career-readiness pathways designed to turn systemic vulnerability into economic independence.
Across Ireland, Spain and Romania, these examples show that Local to Local is ultimately about bringing complementary strengths together. HP contributes technology, expertise, resources and employees ready to engage; YMCA brings trusted local relationships, community infrastructure and experience working alongside young people.
When those strengths meet locally, technology becomes more than a device or donation. It becomes a tool that local organisations can use to build learning, confidence and new opportunities for young people and their communities.
