The Health Check review has shown that this policy does not exist in many YMCAs in Europe. YMCA is the Safe Space, so we are sure the policy should appear in all YMCAs working with kids and youth.
The document is important not only for children’s safety but for building the trust in communities.
The Safeguarding Policy of YMCA England & Wales sets out commitment to ensuring that Children, Young People & Vulnerable Adults (CYPVA) who they come into contact with are protected. It also provides you with the overarching principles that guide their approach to safeguarding.
The organisation aims to ensure that all CYPVA are welcomed into a safe, caring, environment with a happy and friendly atmosphere. YMCA England & Wales recognises their responsibility to implement appropriate and comprehensive policies and procedures for safeguarding and to review them regularly, which are designed to recognise, respond and refer such abuse.
Safeguaring and Child Protection Policy of YMCA Romania
YMCA USA has been working on this system for quite a long time. Now Child Protection is a “membership standard” for them. This means if member YMCAs don’t abide by the Standard, they cannot continue to be YMCAs.
We encourage you to start setting minimum standards and a protection system. You will develop it gradually with time and experience.
We believe provided information will let you start working on Child Protection System.
If you are already elaborating it, searching for networking, more materials to study or ready to share experience with other YMCAs, let us know. We will do our best to find more documents to provide as examples and organise conversations with partners.
