EQUA Hub Opens in Msida to Strengthen Digital Access as Part of YMCA Malta’s Long-Term Community Work.
On 12 January, YMCA and YWCA Malta officially opened the EQUA Hub in Msida. The hub is a refurbished community space offering practical digital skilling, a safe and inclusive environment, and access to professional support services, including mental health support.
The refurbishment was made possible through European Union funding, translating EU social inclusion and digitalisation priorities into a concrete, community-based service.

Raphael Scerri, National Coordinator and CEO of the European Union Programmes Agency, highlighted the role of EU funding in enabling sustainable social infrastructure.
Mary J. Jones, President of YWCA Malta, marked the organisation’s 20th anniversary and its long-standing commitment to social justice and community wellbeing.

YMCA Malta works nationally to support young people and vulnerable groups through youth work, education, employability pathways, social inclusion programmes, and community services.
Its activities address issues such as digital exclusion, mental health, access to skills, and participation in society, often focusing on people facing economic or social barriers.

The organisation combines grassroots delivery with structured programmes, ensuring that local needs inform how services are designed and implemented across Malta.
Anthony Camilleri, CEO of YMCA Malta, presented the EQUA Hub as a direct response to these identified local needs.
In closing remarks, Marius Pop, Executive Secretary for Communications and Partnerships at YMCA Europe, stressed the importance of European cooperation and responsible partnerships, including collaboration with HP, in supporting sustainable and relevant community services.
The EQUA Hub reflects a wider European approach within the YMCA movement: aligning EU policy, national implementation, and cross-sector partnerships to deliver practical impact at community level.
