On April 9, 2024, YMCA Europe, represented by Jessica Woitalla and Samantha Deo Christian, had the chance to attend the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture & Education (CULT) hearing.
As part of its commitment to youth engagement, the CULT Committee organized a debate with young people to be “Engaged4YOUth.” This exchange aimed not only to reflect on the achievements of the current mandate but also to set forward-looking priorities for the future.
The meeting was also attended by young people from across Europe, representatives from the European Commission, the Belgian Presidency, and other stakeholders.
The dialogue between CULT Members of the European Parliament (MEP) and young participants spanned across key areas within the committee’s jurisdiction, including youth affairs, culture, education, the Erasmus+ program, sports, and media freedom. MEPs highlighted notable achievements from the current term while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead for the next legislature.
The YMCA Europe delegation had the chance to intervene and ask questions pertaining to digital literacy, specifically on how non-formal education can complement formal education in improving digital literacy and how the Parliament would involve the non-formal education system in implementing digital educational policies.
We are happy to be able to participate in this meeting and further underline our commitment in creating a more equal, inclusive world for all.
