Greenhill YMCA is an Outdoor Education and Residential Centre set on the beautiful slopes of Slieve Donard Mountain in Newcastle, Northern Ireland and offers a range of activities which are both fun and challenging whilst helping to develop the individual in terms of self esteem, co-operation, communication and improving leadership skills.
The centre has been delivering outdoor programmes on the site for over 100 years and have welcomed 10,000 visitors each year and its having vast experience in designing and delivering programmes and courses for schools and youth groups.
The centre`s activities include: Archery, bouldering, canoeing, climbing, abseiling, laser tag, mountain walks, raft building, outdoor cooking, initiatives, zipline plus many more.
LENGTH OF PLACEMENT: 1 Year
AGE: 18 +
HOURS OF WORK: 10-12 sessions per week (Monday – Sunday) . Sessions will take place in the Morning, Afternoon and some Evenings.
TWO INTAKES PER YEAR: January & September
WEEKLY ALLOWANCE: £65.00 (STERLING)
ACCOMMODATION: Self catering accommodation is provided free of charge at Greenhill.
TRAINING: Volunteers will undertake a 6 week training programme. The training programme will cover the main areas of work that volunteers will undertake throughout their period of employment. Following this period of training, volunteers will be given the opportunity to further develop their skills through ongoing training
VOLUNTEERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Maintaining a personal training log
- Leading a range of activities that support young people to develop and learn as part of the centre programmes
- Undertaking training, as required
- Using the medium of outdoor education and group work supporting young people to reflect on and learn from their experiences as part of Greenhill YMCA programmes
- Fulfilling specific operational duties
