August, the 12th it’s International Youth Day – an awareness day designated by the United Nations. It is an opportunity to get our voice heard, and YMCA Europe takes this opportunity to tell the world: #AskYouthFirst !
While young people are crucial citizens today with a strong impact in tomorrow´s society, being empowered everyday to act in their communities, their concerns are still disregarded as "idealistic" and "unrealistic" by decision-makers. They are far from being politically empowered, and many blame them for not being active enough to get their voices heard. Yet we could say that they are hardly taken seriously when they do. What everyone seems to disregard is that young people will be the only ones to bear the future on their shoulders. Thus, we want to tell decision-makers of today to #AskYouthFirst before taking decisions. Help us to spread the message: together we can empower the citizens of tomorrow, helping them to believe in themselves as active citizens and convincing politicians of their political worth!
