The only way to shed the "Balkans melting pot" reference is to dispel myths and start at a grass roots level with the youth. The added value of doing this on an International level is for young people from post conflict areas to realize they are not alone, to provide a greater support network and also to share responsibility for the common fate of Europe.
The short term purpose is to build additional values on what has already been achieved in the ‘Roots for Reconciliation’ programme.
The long term purpose is the full implementation of the programme priorities included in the strategic plan of YMCA Europe.
This requires accumulation of learning outcomes of particular YMCA Europe projects in the field, elaboration an efficient and coherent methodology and applying it to pan-European initiatives. This event has its concrete place in the model based on Micro-Meso-Macro levels of programme implementation.
`Bridges for the future` would contribute to the tandem grant phase within the "Roots for Reconciliation" project, where neighboring post conflict countries are encouraged to work together. This initiative is led by successful graduates from previous conferences and projects who will receive necessary support for cross-border or regional initiatives aimed at bringing together young people from different conflict sides. 35 young people from Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland / Northern Ireland and Montenegro will meet for a week to engage and utilize a new generation of peace advocates using social media and cross country collaboration as tools of engagement. To look how balance works not just in the Balkans but across Europe and use a pan-European approach in delivering our messages.in Pristina, Kosovo
