It is high time we hear great success stories from the YMCA Digital Community Hub in Serbia – our joint initiative of accelerating digital equity in the West Balkans, together with HP.
Maja, a dynamic young leader and a student of agricultural economics, has always been passionate about community involvement and personal growth. Her journey with YMCA Serbia began as a leader in their summer camps, where she discovered her knack for leadership and mentoring.
As a camp leader, she also participated in the ECO digital sessions, delivering activities on sustainable living, recycling, and ecosystems to groups of campers.
As she began contemplating her future career and job prospects, Maja decided to take a proactive step by enrolling in a course offered by HP LIFE at YMCA Digital Community Hub, focusing on Career Development, with an emphasis on Resume Writing and Job Interviewing.
Reflecting on her experience, Maja shared, “I had zero knowledge on any of the topics, and to be honest, I was a little bit nervous before starting it.” Despite her initial apprehensions, Maja eagerly embraced the course, keen to learn the skills necessary to navigate the job market. The course provided her with practical knowledge and confidence, enabling her to craft a compelling resume and prepare effectively for job interviews.
Upon completing the course and receiving her certificate, Maja felt a significant boost in her confidence and readiness for the job market. “Now, after I got my certificate, I am sure I will come back to our YMCA and do more courses,” she said, expressing her eagerness to continue her personal development journey.
Maja is particularly interested in the Finance section, which aligns closely with her studies in agricultural economics and her future career aspirations.
Maja’s story is a testament to the impact of the HP Digital Community Hub at the YMCA Serbia on young people’s lives. Through her participation, she not only enhanced her skills but also discovered new interests that align with her academic background and career goals. Maja’s journey from a camp leader to a confident, career-ready individual illustrates the power of self-improvement and the importance of seeking opportunities for growth.

Digital Community Hubs in the West Balkans is a YMCA initiative, powered by HP to accelerate digital equity in the regions, by helping YMCAs in Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, and North Macedonia to expand existing or create new digital community hubs.
The project aims to expand existing digital hubs and create new ones to enable young people, including those from marginalized communities, teachers, and youth workers, to access greater opportunities for education and employment.
