YMCA Moldova’s Digital Education Initiative is bridging the digital gap and empowering women and girls in rural communities.
With the generous support of HP Inc., YMCA is on a mission to transform lives by launching pioneering digital education programmes for women and girls. The initiative focuses on those living in rural communities and Ukrainian refugee women, helping them overcome the barriers that limit access to technology, education, and economic opportunities.
The Digital Education Initiative is focused on closing the gap between those who have access to technology and those who don’t, ensuring everyone has a fair shot at success.

At its core lies an introductory IT programme tailored to reshape education and employability for women in rural regions. By providing access to digital tools, learning platforms, and mentorship, YMCA is helping participants acquire essential digital skills and the confidence to use them effectively in their personal and professional lives.

The programme launched with sessions in Biesti and Orhei and continues to reach new communities every month. It is deeply inspiring to see so many women taking their first steps into the digital world, a powerful reminder of how inclusion and technology can transform lives.

In parallel, the initiative supports Ukrainian refugee women, offering them practical tools for integration, adaptation, and resilience. By combining digital education with empowerment, YMCA is enabling them to rebuild their lives and strengthen their role in their host communities.
Participants in the program are learning how to use various computer and mobile tools and platforms, with a focus on boosting their effectiveness.
The partnership between YMCA and HP Inc. is a shining example of teamwork for community development. Together, we are ensuring that everyone has the chance to thrive in today’s ever-changing digital world.
Moreover, this initiative continues to push for digital equality, especially for women and girls in rural areas who often face barriers to accessing technology, education, and professional growth opportunities. Through targeted outreach, mentorship, and tailored learning paths, women are gaining confidence and practical skills that enable them to participate fully in the digital economy.

Dumitru Roibu, Secretary General of YMCA Moldova, said, “Our digital education initiative is not just about teaching technology; it’s about empowering women — both from rural areas and among Ukrainian refugees, to shape their futures with confidence. Through this programme, we are ensuring that no woman is left behind in the digital age.”

This initiative is just one part of YMCA Moldova’s broader efforts to bring positive change to rural and refugee communities. Through these ICT introductory courses, they’re opening doors to new opportunities and laying the groundwork for sustainable social development. By equipping women and girls with digital skills, the organisation is laying a foundation for long-term social and economic development across Moldova.
Since February 2024, the YMCA team is subsequently enrolled in a novel project to upskill educators, teachers and professors from Chisinau and the suburbs of the Capital, in attaining a high level of digital opportunities.
Through HP IDEA – digital equity in classrooms will be made possible by enabling educators to access programs, training sessions and services designed to equip them for a future-proof journey of digitalisation.
