The overall aim of the Health Assessment is to improve sustainability and strengthen capacity of National Movements through the measurement of performance in key areas of organisational development:
- Strategic planning, mission, values
- People development
- Finances and diversification
- Governance
- Property
- Communication
- Representation and Youth participation
- Monitoring of quality
- Partnership
How it works
YMCA Europe invites National Movements to discuss the questionnaire within their organisations (involving Board and Staff) and provide the data in the electronic form or in the excel document.
YMCA Europe transfers the data to the excel table, puts comments, asks questions and inserts “traffic light” symbols to highlight particular fields.
- “Green flag” means that the development is really good, this is something to stick to and share best practices with others.
- “Amber flag” means that there are potential risks and improvements are needed.
- “Red flag” means that risks are high and special attention is required.
YMCA Europe then suggests a conversation with the National Movement to discuss the results, clarify certain areas , and identify priorities for development. YMCA Europe offers its assistance and a set of Movement Strengthening Tools.
Organisations are invited to fill in the Health Assessment annually. Thus it is possible to see the trends , which provides more data for analysis and further growth.
Since 2018, seventeen National Movements have participated in the Health Assessment. For those who do it annually we would suggest that you do not complete a new assessment but to make changes to the last assessment in the excel document.
In 2021 and 2022 YMCA Europe participated in the work of the global task team bringing together the minimum governance standards, health assessment tools, and elaborating a common approach.
The good news is that agreement was reached. Those organisations which complete the Health Assessment within YMCA Europe do not need to complete it for the World YMCA.
For YMCA Europe it is crucial to highlight that Health Assessment is a tool for self-development, it is not a tool for control by YMCA Europe.
