The meeting was in the frame of the World Alliance of YMCAs approach to Youth Employment, a flagship initiative in the 2014-2018 Strategy "OUR WAY".
The objectives of the Think Tank were :
1. Review and map global YMCA youth employment programmes and vocational training best practices as well areas for development
2. Identify and analyze innovative practices in youth employment
3. Identify and promote practices, methodologies and policies that can provide a focus for investment, development, advocacy and expertise
4. Begin to develop more coordinated approach (at the local, national, regional and global levels) to elevate the visibility of the YMCA as potential leader in youth employment
In addition, the long-term objectives were :
5. Identify and prioritize global youth employment donor prospects and partnerships (governmental, multi-lateral and private sector)
6. Improve global YMCA collaboration to strengthen collective fundraising and capacity building support to expand YMCA youth employment programmes
Hosted by YMCA Spain at its National Office in Madrid, the meeting gathered participants from WAY, USA, Canada, France, Portugal, Spain, Madagascar, East Jerusalem (Palestine), Lebanon and Brasil. The planning team included colleagues from WAY, YMCA USA, Y Care International and YMCA Europe.
