YMCA Lviv (Ukraine) is working on presenting a big modern young opera "Ukraine – Terra Incognita", a large-scale project, which combines the Ukrainian authentic singing with modern academic and European improvisational music with a help of the new art forms.
The new Opera combines the folk polyphony with free jazz, modern symphonic music, video art and the innovative technologies. In this unusual format the opera vocals are replaced with traditional singing. The authors called it the "opera-myth".
The big national premiere of the opera-myth "Ukraine – Terra Incognita" is scheduled for October 14 in Lviv Opera House. The opera is dedicated to Vasyl Slipak, baritone opera singer of the Opera house in Paris.
The opera author and director Uliana Horbachevska says: «All you hear and see in this new Ukrainian opera does open senses.
There exists something – something through, something over and something under – something that prevents us from giving this land away. It is invisible and intangible, unspeakable and inexpressible. We can only feel the meaning for this land for ourselves – so incomprehensible to strangers and so native to us"…
The opera-myth is created by a young generation of Ukrainian artists from various Ukrainian cities, theater and music environments. The idea of the opera matured for few years.
In 2020, it was only presented in a video format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project got support from the Ukrainian Culture Fund. In the coming years we plan to stage the opera in other cities of Ukraine and out of Ukraine. In particular, it is important to stage the opera in Paris, where Vasyl Slipak lived and sang.
In October 2021, the technical innovation of the premiere will feature the DynamiCam shooting. It will be used to broadcast the action online. For the audience, it will provide a sense of presence directly among the actors and musicians on the opera stage.
The show will be demonstrated on a specially developed interactive platform "Virtual Opera", and viewers will be able to switch between broadcast windows: video art, singers-actors, orchestra, musicians-improvisers, general view or consolidated director's version.
Now, YMCA Lviv is searching for a team of opera ambassadors to promote the opera beyond Ukrainian borders, and they invite you to join the network out of Ukraine.
The 250 Ambassadors (both in Ukraine and abroad) will broadcast the live version from the Opera House to their local communities on 14th October (7 PM Ukrainian time).
If you are interested to be an opera Ambassador please fill out the Google Form and we will be glad to see you in our team.
