YMCA is proud to announce that Dragos Tarța has been elected to the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe.
This important milestone reflects our shared commitment to building a more inclusive, democratic, and just Europe – one where young people are not only heard but actively shaping the policies that affect their lives.
Dragos’ election to the Advisory Council of Youth marks the beginning of a dynamic mandate that will place a strong focus on the social and political rights of young people across the continent. His role will be instrumental in influencing youth policy within the Council of Europe framework, contributing to meaningful and lasting change at both local and regional levels.
In his new capacity, Dragos will prioritize:
- Access to affordable and secure housing for young people, recognizing that stable living conditions are foundational to independence and well-being.
- Dignified and fair employment opportunities, ensuring that young people can access decent work with fair wages and adequate protections.
- Revitalizing democracy by championing youth participation in political processes and decision-making at all levels, particularly at the local and regional scales.
At a time when many young people feel disillusioned or excluded from the systems that govern their lives, Dragos brings a powerful commitment to reviving democratic values and ensuring that social rights are not only protected but expanded. He envisions democracies that work for all, especially the younger generation, where policies are inclusive, participatory, and rights-based.
Dragos’ vision also includes a firm stance against all forms of extremism, promoting tolerance, critical thinking, and civic engagement among youth. His advocacy for inclusive societies reflects YMCA Europe’s broader values: empowering youth, strengthening communities, and championing social justice.
As Dragos takes on this new role, he carries with him the voice of thousands of young people from across Europe. We are confident that his dedication, vision, and unwavering support for youth rights will have a profound impact on shaping a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
”I see this mandate as an opportunity to address the key issues felt strongly by all of Europe’s youth. While we have made significant strides for our rights and wellbeing, far too often young people still feel at the periphery of their communities. It is imperative that we stay the course and, in spite of the challenges we face, in spite of threats to democracy and civil society, we make every effort to protect our right to speak and be. I feel privileged to have benefited from the immeasurable support of the YMCA and to have such a vast network of volunteers, youth workers and experts whose voice I will carry forward with pride.” Dragoș Tarța
We congratulate Dragos on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to supporting him throughout his mandate. Together, we remain committed to a Europe where youth lead the way in building stronger, more inclusive democracies.
