The first YMCA Youth-Led Solutions Summit of the series will take place in San Francisco in June 2020 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Charter of San Francisco which gave birth to the United Nations on the 26th of June 1945. The event will primarily focus on empowering youth to bring evidence-based solutions that address climate change to their local communities.
The Youth-Led Solutions Summit Series is a series of events which will take place from 2020 to 2022 across the world, and which aim to amplify youth solutions that positively impact local and global sustainability, the development of just and equitable communities, and the well-being of all people.
The Youth-Led Solutions Summit Series will be held by the World Alliance YMCA, in collaboration with Area and National YMCA Movements, the United Nations, academia and select private sector partners. These Summit Series will empower young people and drive social innovation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Using a rolling thunder approach, this series will culminate in a Global Youth-Led Solutions Showcase at YMCA's World Council in Aarhus, Denmark in July 2022.
YMCA Europe was invited to be part of the planning committee for the Youth-Led Solutions Summit in San Francisco. A planning meeting was held in San Francisco from 3 to 7 February 2020 in order to develop the vision and framework for the San Francisco Youth-Led Solutions Summit, which will be focused on SDG#13 Climate Action. The YMCA of San Francisco hosted a global planning committee of young leaders from Europe, Asia & Pacific Alliance, Africa Alliance, Latin America and Caribbean Alliance, Canada, and the USA.
The objectives of the planning committee were to develop the learning design for the San Francisco Youth-Led Solutions Summit focused on climate action.
