The sixth YMCA Youth Unify camp was held just outside of Budapest from the 20th to the 26th of August.
It was attended by 62 participants from 8 different nations (Czech Republic, England, Germany, Hungary, Serbia, Ukraine, Colombia and Egypt, and was hosted by the wonderful, creative and generous KIE Hungary!
Youth Unify is a special network of young people from across Europe and beyond, who are seeking together to understand their Christian faith and what this means for them in their local and national YMCAs. The camp is organised and led by a team of young leaders who have worked hard all year on putting the camp together.
The content of the camp is very diverse with each participating nation leading different styles of Christian worship from all of the different Christian traditions represented.
This brings a spiritual richness that is both beautiful and stimulating. There is lots of space for Bible teaching and for open discussion. Of course the whole event is full of activities that build strong relationships – this year the afternoon and evening programmes included sport, craft, Tensing, worship jams, geocaching, cultural presentations, a campfire, Hungarian music night and a day trip to Budapest. A big highlight on one of the hotter days was a visit to cool off in a local lake!
The planning team was very encouraged by the positive feedback and the evidence of young people engaging with their faith and being motivated to share these experiences back home, as well as lots of dreams and plans for new projects inspired by this special week spent together.
Look out for upcoming smaller events and ongoing training throughout the year, and of course announcements soon for next year’s camp!
The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
