A new milestone in the history of YMCA France was marked during the General Assembly held on 12–13 June at YMCA Villeurbanne.
This important gathering brought together leaders from local YMCAs across France to reflect on the movement’s progress and shape its future.
The Assembly also marked a significant governance transition, a new President, Olivier Gelis, and renewal of the national Board. Discussions focused on the priorities, actions and other governance agenda that will guide the next chapter of YMCA France.

It was also a valuable opportunity to connect with leaders from across the country and to celebrate our host, YMCA Villeurbanne, which in these days marks an extraordinary 170 years of service to young people and communities.

Representing YMCA Europe, Organisational Development Director Alina Pop highlighted the active role of every local YMCA in co-creating and strengthening the national movement. She reaffirmed YMCA Europe’s commitment to walk alongside YMCA France as it develops a renewed vision and roadmap for the future.
Addressing the Assembly, she thanked local YMCA leaders for their commitment, service and the work they carry out every day in their communities.
She also paid tribute to Mr. Hervé de la Morsangliere – who stepped down from presidency- for his many years of dedicated leadership and for his contribution to strengthening YMCAs in France.

Drawing inspiration from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s words, “As for the future, your task is not to foresee it, but to enable it,” Alina reflected that this is at the heart of YMCA leadership: enabling young people, enabling communities, enabling local YMCAs to thrive, and enabling the movement to become stronger for future generations.
Together, we continue building a stronger, more connected and more impactful YMCA movement in France and in Europe.
