Collaborative Efforts for Movement Strengthening: YMCA Europe, World YMCA, and YMCA Germany Joint Meeting
From 10-12 September 2024, YMCA Europe and World YMCA convened with YMCA Germany in Kassel for a joint meeting focused on Movement Strengthening.
The first day was dedicated to a comprehensive needs analysis within the organisational development of YMCA Germany.
With insights from a health assessment and a detailed presentation by YMCA Germany, we were able to pinpoint critical issues that require attention. Further internal discussions will follow to determine the next steps. YMCA Europe appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the organisation’s unique cultural context and operational systems.
Additionally, a separate meeting was held to discuss the “Signs of Hope” Foundation. During this, we explored approaches for better alignment and coordination within movement strengthening. YMCA Germany’s remarkable annual fundraising efforts, which support grassroots initiatives worldwide, were also highlighted.
The second day focused on global cooperation in movement strengthening. Together with their Regional Coordinators, YMCA Germany, YMCA Europe, and World YMCA discussed aligning capacity-building efforts across the global movement.
Vision 2030 presents an opportunity to establish the Strategic Alignment and Movement Strengthening (SAMS) Support function for YMCAs globally. Such visits underscore the importance of integrating organisational development with impact enhancement.
The life of every civil society organisation is holistic, like a sphere. We cannot solely focus on programme development without ensuring sustainability and succession. Similarly, we cannot emphasize governance and financial success without prioritising impact.
YMCA Europe is fortunate to collaborate with partners like YMCA Germany and World YMCA in creating sustainable, long-lasting change.
