Empowering Moldova’s Teachers for the Digital Age: YMCA and HP IDEA Programme Marks Major Milestone
In a significant step toward modernising education in Moldova, YMCA Moldova celebrated the graduation of 147 teachers from 17 educational institutions in Chișinău, who successfully completed the HP IDEA (Innovation and Digital Education Academy).
The ceremony, held on 6 April, marks a year of transformative learning, implemented by YMCA Moldova, HP Inc., and the Chișinău Municipality.
The programme, developed with the expertise of Intel specialists, focused on advancing digital competencies among teachers through a cutting-edge online training curriculum. Participants took part in a series of interactive sessions designed to integrate technology into classroom practices, culminating in official certification of their newly acquired skills.
“We are honoured to contribute to the modernisation of education in Chișinău and support educators in adapting to the demands of the digital age,” said Dumitru Roibu, Executive President of YMCA Moldova. “This project stands as a concrete example of effective partnership between local authorities, civil society, and the private sector.”
Ion Ceban, Mayor of Chișinău, also praised the initiative:
“Investing in the education system and supporting our teachers remains a top priority for the Municipality of Chișinău. This project with YMCA Moldova is not only about training – it’s about setting a national example in the quality of education and creating opportunities for our most competent educators to lead the way in digital transformation.”
The initiative reflects a strong commitment from the Chișinău City Hall, where education remains central to its development agenda. Speaking at the event, Andrei Pavaloi, Head of the General Directorate for Education, Youth and Sport, added:
“This collaboration with YMCA Moldova has enabled us to offer quality digital training to over 100 teachers in our capital. It is a meaningful step towards an education system that meets the needs of today’s students.”
YMCA Moldova continues to champion digital equity and professional upskilling across the country – donating HP equipment and delivering training programmes that empower both educators and young people to thrive in an inclusive and sustainable digital society.
HP IDEA is a part of HP’s commitment to accelerate digital equity for 150 million people by 2030. The program has been launched in 21 other countries across the Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia. For more information on the HP Innovation and Digital Education Academy, please click here.
