It was also the 5th anniversary of the renewed YMCA Portugal.
Mario Pereira passed away last June 25th and March 16th was also his birthday. He was an inspiring YMCA leader for the Portuguese national YMCA and strongly supportive of the European and global movement.
The Mayor of Setubal Mrs. Maria das Dores Meira, members, volunteers, staff, beneficiaries, Mr. Pereira´s family and representatives of different public and private organizations that partner with YMCA Setubal attended the event held at one of the branches of this local YMCA.
Secretary General Luis Sebastiao shared a profile of Mr. Pereira and updated about the developments of YMCA Setubal within its social, educational and recreational programmes for youth. On behalf of YMCA Europe, our Secretary General Juan Simoes Iglesias focused on the contributions of Mr. Pereira and the Setubal YMCA to the international movement highlighting the inclusive, committed and transformational profile of both the leader and the institution.
A message of gratitude sent by World Alliance´s SG Carlos Sanvee was also shared during the event which was also attended by Martin Vosjan from the Netherlands and delegations from YMCAs in Brazil, Spain and YMCA of the USA represented by Renata Ferrari.
