YMCA Europe Drives Change: an Overview of our Workshop on Youth Empowerment at UIA’s Round Table Conference.
The Union of International Associations (UIA) works to promote and facilitate the work of the main organisations by creating opportunities of mutual learning, networking and best practice sharing. UAI is an independent research institute gathering international associations, professional societies, interest groups and non governmental organisations with a common interest: raising the profile of the civil society as a way for positive social transformation.
On November 24th, YMCA Europe was honored to be a part of the Union of International Associations, representing our organization at the prestigious 17th Round Table Europe conference held in Brussels.
This conference served as a unique platform that brought together over 200 participants, representing a diverse array of organizations from both the social and private sectors. It stood as a shining example of active civil society members engaging in impactful discussions and sharing insights on pertinent topics that significantly influence Europe today.
This event went beyond just networking; it was a dynamic forum where thought leaders and representatives collaboratively explored solutions and ideas to address the challenges facing our continent. YMCA Europe played a vital role in this collective effort.
Workshop Spotlight: “Empowering the Next Generation. How to Make Your Association Youth Friendly.”
As part of our commitment to fostering positive change and empowering the youth, YMCA Europe was excited to lead a workshop during the conference.
The “Empowering the Next Generation. How to Make Your Association Youth Friendly” session was led by YMCA Europe’s Secretary General, Juan Simoes Iglesias, and Executive Secretary on Movement Strengthening and Strategy, Olga Lukina.
Olga and Juan presented the workshop at the opening plenary and then delivered two sessions for a wide number of participants with a focus on YMCA’s best practices in terms of youth involvement, empowerment and participation in the governance and programmatic dimensions. Our input was very well received by the participants and we connected with relevant new stakeholders.
Their combined expertise and commitment to youth empowerment shone through as they shared valuable insights and strategies, contributing to the overarching goal of fostering a more inclusive and youth-friendly landscape within associations.
This workshop underscored our dedication to not only engaging in meaningful discussions but also actively contributing to the development of actionable solutions. We believe that by making associations more youth-friendly, we pave the way for a future where the voices and potential of the next generation are not only heard but also play a pivotal role in shaping our collective destiny.
Sharing with Mr. Cyril Ritchie, President of UIA and other members of this institution’s Board and team was truly inspiring as we agreed on further commitment and participation of YMCA Europe within this effective network.
Stay tuned for updates as YMCA Europe continues to champion youth empowerment and contributes to the broader dialogue at the UIA Round Table conference. Together, we strive to build a more inclusive and vibrant future for Europe.
