Juan Simoes Iglesias, YMCA Europe Secretary General, proudly represented the organization at the esteemed 6th Education Summit by the European Commission in Brussels.
This significant gathering brought together over 500 policymakers, representatives from EU institutions, governments, stakeholders, and civil society organizations. The collective aim was to discuss initiatives and share best practices that contribute to the realization of the European Education Area for all.
Throughout plenary sessions and panels, participants engaged in addressing crucial questions such as improving the education and training sectors for the benefit of all and ensuring that young people are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in the green and digital transitions.
Hosted by Mrs. Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, the event provided a platform for our Secretary General to introduce Mrs. Ivanova to the impactful reality of the YMCA movement across Europe.

The summit featured inspiring remarks from Mrs. Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, Director General of DG Education, Youth, Sport, and Culture (European Commission). We have the opportunity to actively contribute by sharing details about our network, youth empowerment approach, and the new Vision 2030 strategy with the Director General.
Moreover, at the summit, our Secretary General met with Mr. Yevhen Kudriavets, Deputy Minister for European Integration and Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The meeting underscored YMCA’s dedication to supporting the Ukrainian communities, with discussions covering updates on YMCA Ukraine’s nationwide initiatives and the commitment of European and global YMCAs to assist in the integration of Ukrainian refugees. Mr. Kudriavets expressed appreciation for YMCA’s steadfast commitment, particularly highlighting the organization’s support for youth.
