YMCA at the Council of Europe’s Consultative Meeting on Digital Governance to discuss about the youth for the future of the Internet.
As technology becomes an inseparable part of our lives, the cyberspace has become dynamic environment where the youth not only exist but thrive, learn, and communicate.
The Council of Europe’s Consultative Meeting on Digital Governance (Strasbourg, France, November 28 – 30th), sets the stage for critical discussions and exchanges of thoughts between youth, policymakers, experts, and practitioners to ensure their voices actively contribute to the governance shaping this virtual landscape.
It is a commitment to fostering an environment that not only addresses immediate concerns but actively nurtures growth and participation.
Representing YMCA Europe, Samantha Deo Christian takes the lead in navigating the complex landscape where technology and youth empowerment intersect. The empowerment of youth in the digital space necessitates a framework that champions inclusivity, accessibility, and ethical considerations.
The meeting seeks to review recent developments in digital governance, focusing on youth participation and access to digital rights. This involves exploring how youth participation aligns with key priorities such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy, and digital citizenship education.
Most importantly, each aspect of this digital discourse is inextricable from human rights components—a comprehensive approach to digital governance must uphold and protect the fundamental rights of individuals.
The agenda extends to proposing strategies for seamlessly integrating digital governance within the Youth for Democracy program for the years 2024-2027. This integration is particularly critical in the realms of non-formal education, youth work, human rights education, and broader youth participation. Looking beyond the confines of the meeting room, the objective is to guide future contributions and participation in external processes related to digital governance.
YMCA Europe is always proud to be able to support young people and amplify their voices. We hope to continue empowering youth and giving them the platform and opportunity to create a better future.
