YMCA Europe champions digital skills and inclusion: Partnering with European Institutions and businesses to advance skilling.
April 30 marked a significant milestone for YMCA Europe as we participated in the closing event of the European Year of Skills, hosted by the European Commission in Brussels. Joined by leaders from both the public and private sectors, YMCA Europe showcased its successful initiatives that promote essential skills in socially relevant fields across the continent.
This year, we are excited to announce that YMCA Europe has officially joined the European Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition. This membership underscores our commitment to empowering YMCAs and promoting inclusivity in the digital era. We believe that digital education is a fundamental right and that technology should be accessible to everyone.
In our ongoing effort to support diversity and inclusion within the tech industry, YMCA Europe is proud to have submitted an application for the European Digital Skill Awards 2024 in the “Inclusion in the Digital World” category. Our application highlights our continuous work to reach underserved communities, including minorities, people with disabilities, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and notably, women and girls.
The closing event of the European Year of Skills provided an excellent platform for engaging discussions, stakeholder panels, and the sharing of best practices, aligning perfectly with our Vision 2030 goal of “Meaningful Work”. This EU initiative is dedicated to equipping people with the right skills for quality jobs, addressing skill shortages across Europe.
During the event, Mr. Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights of the European Commission, shared insights on the outcomes of this pivotal year. Our Secretary General, Juan Simoes Iglesias, had the opportunity to personally congratulate Commissioner Schmit on behalf of YMCA Europe.
Juan discussed our strategic “Meaningful Work” pillar and highlighted key YMCA initiatives that facilitate access to quality jobs, especially for young people.
We extend our gratitude to our dedicated staff and partners whose tireless efforts and support have significantly contributed to our mission. YMCA Europe remains committed to making a lasting impact, ensuring that no one is left behind in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
