HP’s Donation is “Turning Up the Volume” and Boosts Digital Engagement at YMCA Romania
The 6th of December is traditionally known as Saint Nicholas Day, and this time, the team at YMCA Romania have received a very generous donation of more than one thousand HP Poly products, specifically headphones for office and gaming.
The equipment is dedicated to supporting digital equity activities and programs of the YMCA in Romania, part of the educational programs for kids and youth work, including the Ukrainian community in the region.
When the war started, YMCA Romania team was present at the border crossing ensuring regular services and assistance to all those coming from Ukraine (learn more).
Since February 2022, YMCA Romania has sustained its commitment to support the Ukrainian refugees, offering ongoing guidance, support, and tailored activities, with a special focus on mothers and children. Within this safe haven, the organization provides not only mental health support but also a diverse range of engaging activities, striving to create an environment that fosters resilience and well-being amidst challenging circumstances.
The commitment to youth work at YMCA Romania spans diverse settings. From center-based activities at the YMCA Hub to outreach and mobile endeavors in schools, community partnerships, and detached youth work in rural and vulnerable communities, they have implemented a comprehensive approach.
Their methodologies encompass a meticulously crafted curriculum, covering arts, culture, first aid, sports, youth forums, counseling services, and the integration of new technologies and media.
Now, with the backing of HP, YMCA Romania extends even more its impact by the activities delivered in rural areas by the Mobile Youth Center. This strategic initiative customizes activities to the unique needs of rural and vulnerable communities, championing equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The Mobile Hub serves as a catalyst for positive change, providing essential tools and educational opportunities to communities previously isolated from such resources.
The HP products received play a pivotal role in reaching various demographics:
- 300 children and young people, encompassing both Romanian and Ukrainian refugees temporarily residing in Baia Mare and Maramures county, through the YMCA Mobile Hub.
- 600 young people from Romania participating in diverse youth work programs facilitated by YMCA and its partners, such as schools, NGOs, and universities, will benefit from the HP products.
- 50 individuals from Ukrainian families, including mothers, elderly individuals, and fathers, at the YMCA Hub.
- 50 children and young people, including both Romanians and Ukrainian refugees temporarily residing in Baia Mare and Maramures county, engaged in programs at the YMCA Hub.
Partnering with local schools from rural areas, the Mobile Hub involves educators, introducing innovative activities and approaches that address diverse beneficiary needs and present new topics to the communities they serve.
In alignment with their commitment to excellence, YMCA Romania initiated quality standards for youth work in 2019, a collaborative effort involving national consultations with NGOs, public authorities, and youth workers.
Within #AlwaysON for Youth Project, through a consortium with YMCA Europe, CCIVS, Young Initiative Romania, and Nadejda Bulgaria, the organization developed standards addressing digital safety, well-being, and inclusion, offering innovative tools like a MOOC course and gamification tools for youth workers, teachers, and young individuals.
HP’s contribution is instrumental in advancing these initiatives, supporting YMCA Romania in providing inclusive, empowering, and digitally enhanced programs to the communities they serve.
